We kicked off our efforts in October 2013. We held an aluminum can drive, and a yard sale, to let everyone know about our organization.
With the help of the community, by the end of December we were able to raise a $134 for the families at A.I. duPont Hospital. Not as much as we had hoped, but it was a good start for the local effort.
We also collected a little over 6 gallons of can tabs! This is approximately 20,700 can tabs that we cleaned, and donated to the Ronald McDonald House. The people who work there were amazed. The director came out to thank me personally. They are really excited to have us working with them.
Even though we did not use the Ronald McDonald House while my son was sick, I love the services that they offer. I also love the fact that every penny they raise goes to help the families that do need their services.
For those of you that don't know this already, The Ronald McDonald House provides accommodations for families of children that have to stay in the Children's Hospital. Many of these families come from other states, or even the other side of our state. The daily drive back and forth to the hospital would be impossible for them.
They accept a wide variety of item. You can find a list of these items on the Other Ways To Help tab. All of these resources are put towards keeping the cost to the families at a minimum. A clean, safe place for these families at a very small fraction of what they would otherwise have to pay in hotel bills.
When we were in the hospital during 2003, one of the families reported that it was a beautiful room and that it was only costing them $15 a night! Obviously, the owner and staff are dedicated people that are not there for the money.
Silent Blessing is proud to work with the Ronald McDonald House in helping these families in need in our community.
We are currently holding our second aluminum can/can tab drive. Help us double our last donation by April 30, 2014.
Start saving today! Every donation and every tab counts.
If you are not local send me a message, and I will send you the address where you can send your can tabs. It is amazing how something so small can make such a big difference for these families.
Let's get everyone involved.
